BRATISLAVA, November 7, (WEBNOVINY) – Chairman of the ruling coalition member the SDKU-DS Mikulas Dzurinda is convinced that leader of the opposition SMER-SD party Robert Fico performed “a reaction of an insulted, stood-up bride”, when he brought out recordings of old telephone conversations on Sunday. According to Dzurinda, Fico has been sending signals for some time that he would like to befriend the SDKU-DS party, align with it and even called Dzurinda in person to request a meeting. The SDKU-DS, however, rejects such initiatives. “I will not be intimidated or bought”, Dzurinda stated on air of the Slovak Television (STV). According to Dzurinda, Fico feels that he is getting into isolation and similarly as Vladimir Meciar in the past, will not last long there.
The SDKU-DS chairman further said that he had known about the possibility of bringing out the recording for about a month, and it was allegedly to be made public two days before the party congress. Dzurinda claims that it is a lie that SMER-SD got the recording on Saturday. “I can see that what happened at our congress lifted the chairman of the SMER-SD off the chair”, he stated. At Saturday’s congress, Dzurinda said about Fico’s party that it is not a social democracy, but a ” corrupt bunch of communists, who practice malevolent anti-popular policy“.
According to Mikulas Dzurinda, the recording was made public probably more than ten years ago on a radio, but no one reacted to it, as everybody knew that it was „outlandish“. He had not known about any corrupt request connected with the business that was subject of the conversation. Dzurinda claims that he only heard out businessman Vladimir Miskovsky, who “bombarded” him with calls that the city was making obstacles to him. In reaction, Dzurinda picked up the phone and called the then Bratislava mayor Peter Kresanek and asked him in a lawful way not do cause problems to anyone.
