BRATISLAVA, February 22, (WEBNOVINY) — Minister of Economy Juraj Miskov sees room for energy price reduction. “We believe that there is space for cuts in energy prices. We will appeal to the Office for Network Industries (URSO) to set such regulatory policy that would prevent monopolies from having inappropriate profits,“ said Miskov at a news conference on Tuesday after he met with Minister of Agriculture Zsolt Simon and Prime Minister Iveta Radicova. The three discussed food prices.

Miskov said that his ministry would disagree with the regulatory policy for 2012 – 2016, which the office has submitted for interdepartmental review. “The Ministry of Economy puts great emphasis on good regulatory policy of the state. I will not disclose any secret when I say that Slovakia has the highest energy prices among V4 countries. Something like this is simply inconceivable and we cannot tolerate it. We will not agree with the regulatory policy that facilitates highest energy prices,” said Miskov.

Prime Minster Iveta Radicova also says that the current as well as the proposed regulatory policy is unacceptable for the government. “The Minister of Economy has my full support. That material is unacceptable. It does not contain what it has to contain. There is no mention of criteria based on which URSO will quote prices. In fact only like that, based on some general principles,” underscored the Prime Minister. She is convinced that better regulatory policy would prevent increase in energy prices and subsequently of food prices.
