BRATISLAVA, October 21, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovak activists are outraged that no progress has been achieved in the case of now four-year old Adam Azab, which they claim has been dragging on already for two years. The boy was kidnapped to Egypt by his father. Anna Ghannamova and Martin Nikodym who set up the Fond Dobrej Nadeje [Good Hope] foundation attended a news conference of Foreign Affairs Minister Mikulas Dzurinda to ask him for help. They demand that authorities in Egypt declare the boy missing, which would enable to start not only local but also international search for him, which also Interpol would join.
The activists have addressed an open letter to Minister Mikulas Dzurinda, Prime Minister Iveta Radicova and the new Egyptian Ambassador to Slovakia Ihab Talaat Nasr. They asked Radicova that the government boycotts expansion of cooperation with Egypt until Adam is returned to his mother Katarina Azab. The activists demand as well detention of all relatives of Ahmed Azab who might have taken part in the abduction of the little boy.
“We are concerned that Egypt does not want to find Adam, therefore we ask you for a truly effective pressure and to indicate to Egypt that diplomatic words might not be enough and that it is necessary to start acting finally as Adam’s life is at danger”, said Ghannamova. Dzurinda however hopes that the activists do not doubt that also the ministry shares the same goal. After the ambassador handed over his credentials to the minister, they spoke about the problem. Dzurinda had planned a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Aboul Gheit at the UN in New York, but he did not succeed. “I follow the developments on a daily basis. I have information that the matter will be in court soon. We will not stop“, said Dzurinda. He promised to discuss the problem with Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic and exert diplomatic pressure on Egypt.
Egyptian citizen Ahmed Azab has kidnapped his 2.5 –year old son two years ago from his mother, Slovak national Katarina who however had decisions of both Slovak and Egyptian courts that the child remains with her. In his previous testimonies the father insisted that his son is with its mother; later the testified that he is with his friends and the last time he claimed he does not know about his son’s whereabouts. Based on this, the activists want that boy declared missing. The activists want to hire private detectives. They also want the prime minister to contribute from her reserve to help find him.
