BRATISLAVA, August 30, (WEBNOVINY) — The morning shooting spree in Devinska Nova Ves, a residential district in the western part of Bratislava, has its eighth casualty. The woman who was shot met standing at the balcony of her home has died of suffered injuries. She was one of the injured that the gunman shot as he was shooting at random after he executed an family of six and before he killed himself surrounded by police. Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic told a news conference on Monday that after she was shot, the woman probably returned to her home where she died from the suffered injuries. Her husband found the body of his wife in the afternoon “It is the eighth victim of that insane murderer, we are saying prayers and we all believe that this was the last one,” said the minister. The police have already talked with a man who was on a balcony on the tenth floor during the shooting. A bullet hit him in the abdomen.
Health Minister Ivan Uhliarik reported that the gunman, whose identity has not been revealed by the police yet, shot fifteen people. Thirteen survivors have been hospitalized in medical facilities in Bratislava. Two people were provided treatment right on the scene of the incident and were sent home. A three-year old boy has been among the hospitalized victims. The minister specified that one patient is in a critical but stabilized condition, three people are in a serious condition and nine are doing well.
The police announced that six of the fatalities left behind the morning shooting were members of a family. The first police patrols arrived on the scene of the shooting within two minutes after the police received the respective call just after 10:00 a.m. At that time the gunman has already left the apartment block where in one of the homes he shot dead the whole Roma family of four women and one man. Just outside the house, he shot dead another male member of the same family and as he caught sight of approaching police officers, he opened fire on passersby. The gunman committed suicide after he was surrounded by police.
The police said that the gunman was an approximately fifty-years-old man. He shot from an AK-47 and had also two more firearms with him and eight full cartridges. During the police action he also injured a police officer, who was shot in the head, and is in critical but stable condition in hospital. Police sealed off Devinska Nova Ves after the shooting and bus service has been disrupted there as a result. There was no word about identity of the gunman or his victims yet.
