BRATISLAVA, June 1, (WEBNOVINY) — The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has already prepared most recommendations, which the European Commission (EC) gave to Slovakia in the area of labor and social affairs, into the legislative process, said Labor Minister Jan Richter on Friday after meeting with EC Vice President Maros Sefcovic. According to the minister, the recommendations concern the pension reform and active labor policy, among others. “We are preparing concrete solutions to these problems,” the minister said. He went on to say that they agreed with the EC vice president that EC’s views in many cases are identical with views of the Slovak government. “It is the issue of the long-term unemployed, employment of women, marginalized communities, including the Roma community, or pre-school preparation of Roma children,” Sefcovic said with regard to the recommendations.

The European Commission commented in its specific recommendations for Slovakia that the country will have to address serious and complex challenges in the area of public finances, the labor market, taxes, education and public administration. In spite of Slovakia having implemented measures and reforms in order to strengthen the fiscal framework, improve the sustainability of the pension system and increase transparency of the justice system, the European Commission evaluated reforms in the area of employment and education as insufficient.
