BRATISLAVA, January 23, (WEBNOVINY) — The parliamentary gremium, a gathering of leadership of the house and heads of factions, has not agreed on Monday on how to punish MP and leader of Ordinary People and Independent Personalities party Igor Matovic for his provocation on Friday. Matovic angered MPs by installing a sign with a gorilla holding a banana over its head at the entrance to the Slovak Parliament, KDH spokesman Matej Kovac informed SITA news agency. He added that the gremium devoted only a short debate to the topic while no agreement was reached. MPs will most likely no longer deal with the topic.

Matovic hung a picture of a gorilla and banana resembling the national state symbol in shape and design on the main entrance to the parliament on Friday. On this occasion he stated that after the interior minister confirmed that the secret service document codenamed Gorila had officially existed, corrupt politicians in Slovakia no longer have the right to hide behind the official state symbol and therefore he ordered their own one for them. “There are politicians who have been robbing Slovakia for 23 years. We think the people do not deserve to be led by them. They hide behind the double-bar cross, they hide behind our coat of arms and pretend to be state authorities. But in fact, they’re just thieves,” claims Matovic. He, however, admitted that not every MP is a thief, but even those who do not steal say nothing and do nothing to prevent stealing. After Matovic’s show in front of the parliament building ended, parliamentary employees removed the gorilla poster. Speaker of Parliament Pavol Hrusovsky initiated the meeting of the gremium over the gorilla poster, insisting that Matovic unacceptably and grossly disgraced the state symbol.
