BRATISLAVA, October 24, (WEBNOVINY) – SaS deputy from the so-called Ordinary People movement Igor Matovic may vote against the proposed increase in the value added tax (VAT) rate. In the TV Markiza’s political program “Na Telo” broadcast on Sunday, Matovic elaborated that his decision on this matter will depend on whether also other ways to save finances apart from higher VAT rate will be sought. The deputy noted that Ordinary People have prepared some suggestions but refused to specify them. Unless there is another option, his movement will vote for higher VAT rate, though its members would rather touch the income of people who have been raking it in for years. Matovic spoke about additional taxation imposed on all contracts awarded without a fair competition.
The deputy also commented on the election of the Prosecutor General. The reelection of Dobroslav Trnka, the incumbent Prosecutor General, thanks to deputies of SDKU and SMER will confirm “rumors” of a secret agreement between the two parties. Matovic opines that in this case, the scandalous financing of these two parties will unlikely be resolved. Nonetheless, he remains hopeful that an agreement will be attained within two weeks left until the election of the Prosecutor General.
Matovic further confirmed his intention to disclose another letter addressing the coalition, suggesting that all nominations by the coalition parties be released.
