BRATISLAVA 19. júla (WBN/PR) – Superpočítač IBM (NYSE: IBM) je energeticky najúspornejším superpočítačom na svete. K tomuto záveru prišiel server Green500.org, ktorý zostavil zoznam energeticky najúspornejších superpočítačov za rok 2011. Prototyp novej generácie počítača Blue Gene®/Q obsadil v rebríčku prvé miesto.
Z rebríčka ďalej vyplýva, že šesť z desiatich najúspornejších superpočítačov na svete je postavených na technológiách IBM. Figurujú tu superpočítače z Číny, Nemecka a Spojených štátov, ktoré sú používané v širokom spektre úloh, od astronómie cez predpovede klimatických zmien až po výskum živej prírody. IBM taktiež obsadila viac ako polovicu miest v rebríčku top 100 na tomto zozname.
Energetická úspornosť, vrátane výkonu na watt pri tých najnáročnejších aplikáciách, je dlhodobo jedným z hlavných princípov, ktorý je sledovaný pri projektovaní systémov IBM. Energeticky úsporné superpočítače IBM umožňujú realizovať úsporu nákladov znížením spotreby, výdavkov spojených s chladením a škálovaním na väčšie systémy.
IBM Blue Gene/Q by mal byť inštalovaný v roku 2012 dvomi laboratóriami amerického ministerstva pre energetiku: Argonne National Laboratory a Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Obidva tieto ústavy úzko spolupracovali so spoločnosťou IBM na dizajne superpočítača Blue Gene a ovplyvnili mnohé z aspektov softvéru a hardvéru tohto systému.
Spoločnosť IBM ponúka najširšiu škálu superpočítačov zahrnutých v zozname Green500, a to vrátane modelov Blue Gene, Power Systems™, System x iDataPlex®, BladeCenter® alebo hybridných clustrov.
Superpočítač IBM sa taktiež ocitol na samotnej špičke zoznamu Graph500, ktorý zostavuje výbor viac ako tridsiatich medzinárodných odborníkov z akademickej sféry, priemyslu a národných laboratórií. Zoznam slúži ako štandardný test pre dátovo náročné aplikácie – a ako taký poskytuje cenné údaje v oblasti, v ktorej informácie rastú závratným tempom.
