BRATISLAVA, December 21, (WEBNOVINY) — The Office to Fight Corruption is examining the voting of some ruling coalition MPs, who voted for Dobroslav Trnka in the election of the Prosecutor General, confirmed the head of the Office Peter Kovarik on Tuesday. However, no criminal prosecution in the case has been launched. “The office is dealing with this case, but it basically depends to a large extent on whether the politicians concerned will cooperate with us or not,” stated Kovarik. As he further announces, they will soon inform the public on changes in the criminal charges regarding older procurement contracts in his department that Defense Minister Lubomir Galko filed. They will also inform on charges in another case. “I don’t want to speculate in advance as no judicial decisions have been delivered yet,” Kovarik explained.

The Parliament failed to elect the Prosecutor General in two rounds of two secret ballots, four times after each other. Although the governing coalition had a joint candidate — Jozef Csentes, some coalition MPs voted for the opposition candidate Trnka in the third ballot. On Tuesday December 7 the Coalition blocked the fourth ballot by not casting their votes. The four ruling parties have decided to change the parliamentary rules of procedure together with some other laws, so that the next election of the prosecutor general could be by a public vote. A new election of the prosecutor general is expected after the amendments is passed, probably in April or May. The term of the incumbent Prosecutor General, Dobroslav Trnka, ends on February 2, 2011.
