BRATISLAVA, December 18, (WEBNOVINY) – Prime Minister Iveta Radicova mourns the recent death of Vaclav Havel, the first Czechoslovak President after the collapse of the Iron Curtain. For Radicova, Havel was not only president, writer, playwright, but also a great role model, she writes in a letter to Havel’s spouse Dagmar Havlova. “Vaclav Havel has been rightly considered a moral authority not only in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but in the whole cultural world. Because for decades he was one of the most courageous truth-tellers, since the times when the vast majority of Czechs and Slovaks resigned to live in a totalitarian lie or accepted double morality which prevailed in satellites of the Soviet evil empire, “ the prime minister wrote.

According to her, Vaclav Havel knew very well that one must not ask whether to be or not to be a truth-teller in a given period. „One simply is or is not a truth-teller, regardless of the period,” she said. In the person of Vaclav Havel, we have lost an extraordinary man, and one of the most humane people. „If Vaclav Havel and his life in the truth continue to inspire masses in the future, then also our efforts, our everyday struggle, which often happens on a field full of trivialities, will make sense,” Radicova concluded by saying.
