BRATISLAVA, November 28, (WEBNOVINY) — Nearly three in five respondents do not support the current protest of the Medical Trade Unions Association for higher salaries. This stems from results of a telephone survey carried out by Polis Slovakia in cooperation with SITA news agency. About one in three respondents supports the protest action.

43 percent of respondents opine that doctors’ remuneration is satisfactory, while nearly 39 percent are of a different opinion.

A better half of Slovaks consider the Cabinet’s proposal to increase doctors’ wages by EUR 300 on average to be adequate. More than 25 percent of those polled think it is too much, while fourteen percent find it to be too little. Unionists demand an increase by an average of EUR 700. One in ten Slovaks finds such increase adequate. Almost three in ten respondents think it is too much.

One in three respondents opines that doctors’ wages should be increased by the EUR 300 proposed by the government. More than ten percent think doctors’ wages should not be raised at all. Over 63 percent of those polled agree with the requirement that wages are not increased by a flat-rate sum, but according to professional skills and experience.

In connection with nearly two thousand resignation notices tendered by doctors, 77 percent of Slovaks agree with the Cabinet’s decision to declare a state of emergency in health care facilities where health care provision would be jeopardized. Almost sixteen percent are against it. Over 26 percent of respondents think Health Minister Ivan Uhliarik should be dismissed due to alleged failure to resolve the unionists’ requirements, while more than a half disagree.

Polis Slovakia carried out the survey in cooperation with SITA on a sample of 902 respondents from September 26 to November 27 of this year.
