BRATISLAVA, October 31, (WEBNOVINY) — Economy and transport in Slovakia will benefit from the newly-opened section of the dual-carriageway R1 Nitra-Tekovske Nemce in the length of almost 46 kilometers in many ways. Financial savings in individual car transport and bus transport can amount to EUR 28.45 million annually, according to an analysis of the Transport Research Institute (VUD) in Zilina.
Drivers of passenger cars should save more than 16 minutes and buses over 18 minutes when driving on the dual carriageway instead of the old road. The overall time saved by car drivers can thus exceed 1.35 million hours while bus drivers can save 1.14 million hours annually. Trucks should save over 18 minutes on average, while in financial terms it should be EUR 6.39 million annually. About 73.5 percent of traffic should move from the parallel old first category road to the new dual carriageway.
“Using the new section of the dual carriageway between Nitra and Tekovske Nemce will secure smooth and faster transport across the area,” VUD Director General Lubomir Palcak told SITA news agency. The parallel first category road will be unburdened and its capacity will again sufficiently handle transport of regional importance.
Operation of new R1 sections will boost toll collection by EUR 2.23 million annually, according to the Transport Research Institute. “Users of the new road section will be able to save as much as EUR 1.89 million in expenditures on fuel annually,” expects Palcak. Drivers should thus save 1.36 million liters of motor fuels annually. Consequent reduced production of emissions can bring in more than EUR 81,000 annually. The analysis further shows that the number of traffic accidents should fall by two-thirds after the new sections of the R1 dual carriageway are open for traffic, which equals savings of EUR 563,000 annually in financial terms. Use of the dual carriageway could also contribute to opening 3,500 to 4,400 new jobs.
