BRATISLAVA, May 20, (WEBNOVINY) – Speaker of Parliament and SaS leader Richard Sulik on Friday accused the Association of Slovak Towns and Villages (ZMOS) of extorting the government and his party. “It is undignified to boo the prime minister. I do not see how they got to [the conclusion] that they will make laws,” Sulik told journalists on Friday. Sulik urges a switch to one-mandate rule, which means that an MP cannot simultaneously hold the post of mayor.
A few mayors harm the reputation of all mayors, thinks Sulik when some of them granted themselves maximum salaries. Sulik argues that mayors should not have higher wages than the prime minister. He called upon ZMOS representatives to disclose mayoral salaries. At the beginning of the ZMOS Congress in Bratislava, some delegates booed Prime Minister Iveta Radicova and other members of her Cabinet.
Former ZMOS Chairman Michal Sykora indicated that SaS has deliberately assaulted the self-government, harmed its reputation, created tension and cast doubts on representatives of self-governments. Sykora threatened that the self-governments would take appropriate action against SaS representatives unless they stop.
