SaS Party becomes a Member of European Liberals

BRATISLAVA, October 15, (WEBNOVINY) — Junior member of the ruling coalition in Slovakia, the SaS (Freedom and Solidarity) party belongs into the family of European Liberals from now on. The Party of European Liberal Democrats (ELDR) decided on admission of SaS at its congress in Helsinki. SaS gained membership in ELDR after cooperation that lasted nearly a year. Presidency of the European Liberals appreciates the election results that SaS achieved, as well as the content of the program of SaS. „Membership in ELDR is evidence to the effort of SaS to influence politics at the European level, from where a large part of bills originate that are now adopted Slovakia,“ said SaS leader and Speaker of Parliament Richard Sulik. In the past, several parties from Slovakia have tried and failed to join the European Liberals. According to SaS, their quick admission is evidence of stable value orientation, as well as the fact that foreign partners respect and accept each other.

The ELDR group includes, for example the German FDP (chairman Guido Westerwelle, Minister of Foreign Affairs), British Liberal Party (Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister), Irish Fianna Fail (Brian Cowen, Prime Minister), the Danish Venstre (Lars Rasmussen, the Prime Minister), Estonian Reform Party (Andrus Ansip, Prime Minister), Finnish Suomen Keskusta (Ms Mari KIVINIEMI, Prime Minister), the Belgian VLD (Guy Verhofstadt, President of the Liberal platform of the European Parliament), and others. Currently, ELDR associates 56 political parties from across Europe. It has 75 members in the European Parliament and eight of 27 members of the European Commission, personal secretary of Richard Sulik Tatiana Toth Informed media.
