BRATISLAVA, September 28, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radicova is to leave for a two-day meeting of the Eastern Partnership held in Warsaw on Thursday, September 29. She was invited to the event by Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk and European Council President Herman van Rompuy.
Poland organizes the meeting as the country currently holding the European Union rotating presidency. At the second Eastern Partnership meeting, twenty-seven EU member states and six Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) are to meet. „Due to the ongoing democratic deficit in Belarus and effective EU sanctions against the regime, Belarus’ participation in the top-level meeting is not expected. The aim of the meeting is to evaluate the past, more than two-year period of Eastern Partnership work and support commitments of partner countries to intensify their reforms with the objective to enhance their political association and economic integration with the EU,“ the Cabinet Office’s press department informed SITA news agency.
For Slovakia, the meeting is an opportunity to express support for the Eastern Partnership policies, as one of the priorities of Slovak foreign policy, and support the efforts of eastern partners on their road toward democratization and reforms. The prime minister is to return to Bratislava on Friday afternoon.
