BRATISLAVA, July 18, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovakia has not given up its efforts to press on Cyprus to provide access to information on tax entities registered in the country. This remains true although Cyprus will probably not request financial assistance from eurozone countries. The issue of providing access to information on tax entities registered in Cyprus was one of Slovakia’s basic requirements in negotiations on potential aid to Cyprus. “This initiative has support within the eurozone and more proposals for instance from Germany are coming, speaking about the fight against money laundering in connection with Cyprus. Yes, this would be in the future the basic condition in any negotiations between Slovakia and eurozone regarding help to the country, but most likely the problem will be resolved when Cyprus acquires financial sources from other countries that will not require such conditions,” said Prime Minister Robert Fico after Wednesday’s Cabinet session.
Slovakia will continue to strive to gain access to such information and additional taxation of Slovak firms registered in tax havens is a possibility in the future, too, said Finance Minister Peter Kazimir. He went on to say that this is one of the points on the agenda of the fight against tax evasion.
