BRATISLAVA, January 15, (WEBNOVINY) – A calm, constructive and “industrious” atmosphere has been governing the non-parliamentary Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) since the municipal elections. Party leader Jozsef Berenyi informed after the Republican Council on Saturday that the party has overcome certain instability and uncertainty that had appeared after the parliamentary elections in June 2010. The participants of the council have set the main objectives for the upcoming six months, including preparations for personnel changes in the party’s leadership. The incumbent leaders were granted a one-year mandate on July 10, 2010. Based on this fact, the council has outlined a timetable for the next congress, according to Berenyi. Personnel changes in local structures should be carried out by late February, the district organizations are to see the reshuffle before the end of March and the SMK Congress that will elect the new chairman and presidium of the Republican Council will take place on April 16. Berenyi has confirmed his interest in the top post at SMK but added that everything would depend on the support of regional organizations. However, no concrete nominations have been outlined for the time being. “Our statutes set an exact process for nomination of candidates,” he explained. The first nominations will not be presented before the first meetings of local organizations.

Party leaders have not said whether the former party chief Pal Csaky will run for the post of SMK chairman. “In theory, each member has the right to run for the post of the party chairman. It would not be correct and serious if we said who will and who won’t,” said Gyula Bardos. The Congress will be held in one of the towns situated in south-western Slovakia, where SMK won a post of mayor, namely in Samorin, Dunajska Streda, Kollarovo, Velky Meder or Nove Zamky, concluded Berenyi.
