BRATISLAVA, May 19, (WEBNOVINY) — A new pipeline designed to connect oil shipment systems in the Slovak Republic and Austria will run across either the Slovak capital or the Small Carpathians mountain range. The Economy Ministry has unveiled ten potential routes of the interconnection, planned to stretch across the so-called Carpathian or City Corridor. The Slovak pipeline operator Transpetrol plans to construct the pipeline in cooperation with its Austrian partner OMV. To realize this project, the partners founded a JV BSP Bratislava-Schwechat Pipeline GmbH. Experts on both sides have agreed to several routing options that will be examined in analyses and impact studies, the Economy Ministry writes in an information paper on the progress of the interconnection of the Druzhba pipeline with the Schwechat refinery.
Should the companies pick the Carpathian Corridor, the pipeline would be connected in the locality between Marcheg and Zahorska Ves, in the proximity of Jablonica. The City Corridor outlines the connection in the surroundings of Jarovce – Kittsee or Petrzalka – Kittsee, near Velky Biel. The pipeline would run across the Slovak capital.
The length of the pipeline interconnecting the Slovak and Austrian Bratislava-Schwechat crude oil pipeline systems is planned to achieve from 81-152 kilometers. The ministry estimated the costs from EUR 70-112 million. Economy Minister Juraj Miskov is supposed to submit the alternatives of the interconnection to the Cabinet session by late October 2011 at the latest.
