The completion of the third and fourth nuclear unit in Mochovce is likely to be delayed. In February 2020, Director General of Slovenske Elektrarne Branislav Strycek said that nuclear fuel loading into the third nuclear unit could take place in early summer. Detecting two low-quality pieces of pipe at the third nuclear unit and the corona crisis, however, are most likely to delay the completion of the Mochovce nuclear units. “The inspection of selected components is now being carried out at the site of the third and fourth nuclear unit in Mochovce. Once the inspection is finished and the extent of possible remedial measures is determined, it will be possible to assess the impact on the commissioning schedule. Strict safety measures adopted in connection with COVID-19 pandemic may also have an impact on the schedule. Although the works at the site were not interrupted, the number of workers dropped to approximately a half in March. The situation gradually stabilized in April and May,“ Olga Bakova, a spokeswoman for Slovenske Elektrarne informed the portal vEnergetike.sk.
