The power producer Slovenske Elektrarne would like to start loading fuel to the third unit at the Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant, which means initiating its operation, in April 2020. “We are doing our utmost to commence commissioning as soon as April 2020 after the respective decision of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority takes effect,” a spokesperson for Slovenske Elektrarne Miroslav Sarissky informed the portal vEnergetike.sk. However, Slovakia’s dominant power producer warns that the commissioning of the third unit may get complicated. “If the given decision is contested, commissioning will be delayed by four to five months,” Sarissky added. An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) mission visited the third unit in Mochovce. According to the final report available to the portal, the IAEA Pre-Operational Safety Review Team (Pre-OSART) concluded that all safety rules are observed at the new nuclear power plant in Slovakia. At the same time, the team identified areas where further improvement can be achieved.
