The Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic is preparing an amendment to the Energy Act. The so-called winter energy package is thus being implemented in the Slovak energy sector. It concerns the directives of the European Parliament and the EU Council on common rules for the internal electricity market and the use of energy from renewable sources published in June 2019. These directives are part of the EU’s legislative package called „Clean Energy for All Europeans“. „The public can take part in the preparation of legislation by sending suggestions,“ the Ministry of Economy said in a preliminary statement. An inter-department comment procedure for the amendment to the Energy Act is scheduled for September 2021. The new energy law is expected to address the long-planned deregulation of energy prices for small businesses and households.
