Opposition parties are convinced that one of the reasons for the delayed completion of the Mochovce NPP and increasing budget are the dealings of the companies with ties to the governments led by Smer-SD.
Slovakia is expected to have another nuclear unit in the second quarter 2019 when Slovenske Elektrarne is set to complete the third nuclear unit of Mochovce NPP. Approximately a year, the fourth nuclear unit is to be finished. The schedule for the completion of Mochovce NPP has been repeatedly postponed. Under the original plan, the project was to be completed in 2012, respectively in 2013. The original budget set at 2.8 billion euros was insufficient and today, it is estimated at 5.4 billion euros. Despite all the problems the Mochovce project has been facing, the opposition parties agreed for the portal vEnergetike.sk that nuclear units must be completed at any price. “The electricity price has been growing and the 4.9 billion euros have already been invested. The completion of Mochovce NPP is the best solution. The major reason is the value of our share in Slovenske Elektrarne which would be just about zero without the completed nuclear power plant,“ said the team leader for energy from SaS Karol Galek.
