Slovak employers from different associations appointed a new chairman of the regulatory office last year following the request from the economy ministry.
The New Year has come very quickly. Power companies found the previous year quite complicated. Most of them were very busy until mid-2017, know knowing what to do first; whether to protect consumers, defend themselves against populist statements by politicians, glue back the torn electricity bills, or to give endless explanations of the principles of electricity business to journalists. They managed to cope with the chaos caused by energy prices although some of them got through by a whisker. Everything returned to the old track and the energy peace was restored in spite of the fact that most electricity consumers no longer had cheaper electricity only because the irresponsible customers shouted louder at politicians to save them with incredibly stupid statements.
New independent person was appointed
Slovak employers from different associations appointed a new chairman of the regulatory office last year following the request from the economy ministry. The former chairman was allegedly responsible for the entire energy chaos and was no longer suitable. After many years in the office, he started to show off. Employers who form a majority in the selection commission were told that the independent MP for SMER-SD Lubomir Jahnatek was the best candidate. The selection producer did not take place. The newly-appointed head of the regulatory office gave up his MP seat and became independent right away. He started working, yet without any conflicts. He left things unchanged. We will wait for the steps he will take. If he wants to suit those who appointed him, he will face a lot of conflicts.
